OFFICIALS CERTIFICATION

OFFICIALS

Host Societies are responsible for providing the proper level of certified sport officials for the Arctic Winter Games.  The following is a summary of the minimum certification levels required:

Alpine Skiing           Technical Director appointed by sanctioning authority

                                    Level 2 Timers

                                    Level 1 Gate Keepers

Badminton               Canada          – Regional Level

                                    Alaska            – State Level

                                    Greenland     – National Level

Basketball                Canada / Territorial – minimum 80% mark on written exam administered by Territorial Sport Governing Body plus experience officiating at Territorial Basketball Championships

                                    Canada / Alberta – High School officials (3A or 4A experience)

                                    Alaska – TBD

                                    Three officials per Game

Biathlon -

Ski &

Snowshoe                Competition Chief Level 2

                                    Other Chiefs Level 1

Cross Country

Skiing                                    Technical Director appointed by sanctioning authority

                                    Level 2 with experience

·         Chief of Course

·         Chief of Timing

·         Chief of Manual Results

·         Chief of Security

Level 1 with experience

·         Volunteers

·         Communications

·         Equipment

·         Finance

·         Venue Services

Curling                      Head Official Level 3 (or Level 2 with approved experience)

                                    Other on ice officials Level 2

Dene Games                        Consult with the participating Units to select a suitable Head Officials and up to three Judges

Dog Mushing           Consult with the participating Units to select suitable Officials

Figure Skating        Senior Evaluator Level (3 to 5 Judges)

Freestyle Skiing      As required by the rules of the sport

Gymnastics              First year Provincial 3 or higher (8 in total) – the practice has been to use 2 panels of 4 judges for two events being run simultaneously.

Hockey                      Level 3 and 18 years of age

All insured by appropriate hockey association

Indoor Soccer         Canada          – Class 2 Canadian Soccer Association

                                    Alaska            – Level 6 United States Soccer Federation

                                    Greenland     – National Level

                                    All officials must have indoor soccer officiating experience.

Arctic Sports           Consult with the participating Units to select a suitable Head Officials and up to three Judges

Snowboarding        Level 1 & 2

Snowshoeing          Consult with the participating Units to select suitable Officials

Speed Skating        Referee – Level 3

Chiefs – Level 2

Assistants – Level 1

Table Tennis           Technical Director – National Level (Canada)

                                    Other Umpires – Provincial Level (Canada)

Volleyball                  Regional Level

Wrestling                  National Level C

                                    Recommend a minimum of 5 officials
